Summer Shimmer Must Have

Who doesn't love a bit of shimmer and how amazing is it when the glow looks so natural that instead of looking like a disco ball it gives you the Glow of a Goddess. Say hello to the....

Bobbi Brown Brightening Brick.

This summer staple is a definite must have for your summer make up bag and definitely the twin sister to the infamous Bobbi Brown Shimmer brick. So gorgeous in giving you a subtle glow, the brightening brick goes one step further and includes a pop of colour making it versatile in using it for also adding a bit of warmth to your face. Coming in 5 amazing palette options (Pink, Tawny, Pastel Pink, Pastel Peach and Cranberry) the brightening brick works on all skin tones from English Rose to Black skin.

Even though I am a huge fan of baked/ mineralise products, the fact that the brightening brick is closer to a pressed powder in texture means you'll get less fly away shimmers. With this product being fairly pigmented, I would suggest using a soft fluffy brush or angled blush brush to avoid ending up with too much product on your face. Make sure you use light handed circular motions to naturally blend it into the rest of your make up, as opposed to paint brush stokes which tends to drag the rest of your make up.

Shimmer looks best on areas of the face where the light would naturally hit. Such as the highest point of cheeks, bridge of your nose, under your brow bone and at the top of your cupids bow, which creates the illusion of fuller lips. Also, softly adding shimmer to the inner corner of your eye gives the eyes a bright, more open look and the light reflectors counters the look of fatigue. With a teething 10month old this is deffo one of my fave beauty hacks at the moment.

As a multi- purpose product the brightening brick can also be used as eyeshadow and bronzer. If you’re using this on the eyes, you can use your fingers or go in with a dense eyeshadow brush to get maximum colour and as it's split into 6 sections, say hello to 6 new eyeshadows. I'm personally not a fan of shimmery bronzer and prefer a matte finish and if you have oily skin like me or large open pores I tend to find a matte or satin finish bronzer is more flattering. If you are one of the lucky ones and find that shimmery bronzer work for you, swirl your brush over a combination of the brown undertone sections in your brick for your prefect bronzer.

For black skin I found that the 'Cranberry' brightening brick compliments both yellow and red undertones in my skin and has enough colour pay off to complete both a day and night look. If I could change the brightening brick I would have loved a few matte sections to compliment the shimmer textures.

Have you tried the Bobbi Brown Brightening Brick? I'd love hear how you have used the brightening brick on your different skin tones to compliment your complexion.
