ARTICLE OF THE WEEK: The Makeup Industry's Frustrating Cycle of Struggle and Progress for Women

We all know that when we find a brand that just get's it right with foundation, we tend to stay loyal to that brand.

So when the option isn't there to try a new foundation that offers new innovations as well as skin benefits, it's completely understandable to be frustrated or even question the brands positioning, which subtly suggests that you don't fit in their world. Every woman can relate to the feeling of being told a much loved product is sold out or out of stock but its another thing to hear 'Sorry we don't do darker shades', often now followed by a apologetic 'Yet', 'I mean we don't do darker shades YET'. Skin is universal and so is the knowledge that it also comes in all different beautiful shades so why is this still an issue amongst the big beauty brands, who claim to have the customer at the heart of all they do?

Although the issue is still prevalent in today's beauty industry, It makes me super happy that more and more brands are starting to understand that it's not the absolute number of people who know about the brand but the relative coherence of what they think and feel about the brand. On that note, let me share with you the link to my article of the week, published on Jezebel which talks about the 'Makeup Industry's Frustrating Cycle of Struggle and Progress for Women of Color'.

ENJOY.
